Transfer to UoNA

A.   If you wish to transfer to the University of North America

In addition to documents required for international applicants, international students transferring from other institutions in the United States are required to submit the following:

  • Copy of current I-20

  • Official transcript from college/English Language Institute he/she is currently attending

  • Copy of student F-1 visa

  • Copy of I-94

International students transferring from other colleges/universities in the United States must follow the procedures required by ICE. Failure to adhere to the immigration regulations may lead to the international student’s status violation, termination and he/she may have to leave the United States, and re-apply for an F-1 student visa to be able to attend University of North America.

The following steps describe the procedure each international students intending to transfer to University of North America need to follow:

  1. Students wishing to transfer to University of North America from another SEVIS-certified institution must first apply for admission and receive an acceptance letter and a Transfer Information Form from University of North America.  Students must inform University of North America of their acceptance of our admissions offer by signing and returning a copy of the acceptance letter by the due date.

  2. Students should verify what documents are sufficient to complete their transfer-out with the appropriate Designated School Official (DSO) at their current school. The DSO in the international student office of the current school will assign a release date to the SEVIS record for eligible students who have decided to attend University of North America.

  3. Following the release date, University of North America’s International Student Office will issue a SEVIS Form I-20. Transfer students must report to University of North America within 15 days of their program start date.

  4. Students are required to start classes at University of North America during the term indicated in the acceptance letter issued by the Office of Admission. Students must begin classes at University of North America within five months of the last class attended at their transfer-out school.  Students unable to begin classes at University of North America within the five-month time limit are required to leave the United States and may re-enter within 30 days before the program start date indicated on University of North America’s    Form I-20.

  5. After new transfer students have enrolled in classes at University of North America, the DSO at University of North America will update the student’s SEVIS record to reflect their enrollment and current address.

  6. Please note, immigration regulations and procedures change frequently. Therefore, students should contact the DSO at their current school and at University of North America for any updates in transfer procedures.

B.   Transferring from University of North America

If you wish to transfer from the University of North America to another SEVIS-certified school, you must provide a DSO at UoNA with the following information:

  • Verification of your acceptance at the transfer-in school

  • The transfer-in school’s exact name in SEVIS

  • The transfer-in school’s SEVIS code

The DSO will work with the student to determine a satisfactory date to release the student’s Form I-20 to the transfer-in school.  Information such as the student’s plans to travel outside of the United States or the student’s work schedule, if applicable, is pertinent to setting the transfer release date of the student’s Form I-20.
