TOEFL

To enter the graduate program at the University of North America without conditions on their admission, students must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Internet-based TOEFL-IBT score of 79
  • Computer-based TOEFL score of 213
  • Paper-based TOEFL score of 550
  • IELTS score of 6.5
  • Four years of secondary schooling and an undergraduate degree BOTH through the medium of English.

The Graduate Level Preparatory English courses are designed for students that are provisionally admitted to the University of North America (“UoNA”). All non-native speakers of English are required to have a TOEFL/IELTS score in order to apply to the University of North America. Students who do not meet the required minimum TOEFL test score will begin their program at Brydon English Language Institute (“BELI”) of the University. Students such as these are usually in need of furthering their English language skills in order to succeed in the academic classroom.  Students whose scores fall between 71 - 78 will be placed in the Graduate Level Preparatory course of study and will have a condition on their admission. Students whose scores are below 71 will be placed in the intensive English as a second language program.

Please refer to the chart below to review the minimum test scores that you must obtain. Provisionally admitted students will need to clear all conditions on their admissions before they can be eligible to take graduate level courses.  TOEFL/IELTS scores should not be more than a year old.

Provisionally admitted students who are enrolled to this program will take the intensive TOEFL-iBT test preparation program and will be required to retake the TOEFL-iBT test at the end of the 6 weeks. Successful students (these who receive a 79 or higher in the TOEFL-iBT) are able to continue with the second cycle and must take the Academic English course in conjunction with the Cultural Orientation course. Provisionally accepted students who successfully complete the two cycles will be able to clear the condition on their admission and register for their graduate level courses.
