UoNA Faculty Recruiting and Training Guide

 

Applications for the position of faculty member are welcomed.  The following requirements and process will be followed for all candidates:

 

Requirements to Teach Masters-level Courses

 

 

All Courses except 510 & Capstone

MGMT 510 & TECH 510

Capstone

Degree and time held

Masters degree held for at least two years

Masters degree held for at least five years

Masters degree held for at least five years

Professional Experience

Ten years with at least two in the field to be taught

20 years

20 years including at least one year teaching at UoNA

 

Requirements to Teach Doctoral-level Courses

 

 

All Courses except DISS

DISS (Dissertation Courses)

Degree and time held

Doctorate in a related field held for at least two years

Doctorate in a business-related discipline held for at least five years

Professional Experience

Ten years with at least two in the field to be taught

Ten years including at least one year teaching at UoNA

 
  1. Resume and supporting materials are submitted by the candidate to the UoNA Human Resources Office and recorded in the applicant system.  Candidates will be notified of the receipt of the resume and of the process involved.
  2. Selected candidates will complete a telephone interview with the Faculty Recruiting Office.
  3. Qualified candidates for whom there is the possibility of teaching in the near future will be invited to participate in UoNA’s faculty training process.
  4. Potential faculty members will participate in the three week on-line training program.  There is no charge to the candidate for the training provided.
  5. During the training program, potential faculty members are to submit official transcripts and two letters of recommendation from professional colleagues.  Candidates must also complete all required Human Resources employment documents including the Employment Application, Worker Eligibility form (I-9), and tax forms.  All materials must be received by UoNA – HR before any teaching assignment will be made.
  6. Candidates who successfully complete the training program and submit all materials will be scheduled for appropriate courses as opportunities arise.
  7. New faculty members will be mentored during their first course by the Director of Faculty Development and the relevant program dean.

Administration

 
  • Adjunct faculty contracts must be signed by the faculty member and dean and approved by HR in advance.
  • Faculty members are compensated in twopay periods:
    • First half of pay during the first payperiod of the course
    • Second half of pay in the pay periodfollowing the receipt of grades
  • Faculty assessment is central to theuniversity’s goal of continual monitoring and improvement
    • Faculty members will be assessed by their dean or his/her representative during the first course taught for the university.
    • Faculty members will also be assessed during the fifth and tenth courses taught for the university.
    • All faculty members will be assessed at least annually regardless of the number of courses taught.
    • Faculty members will be assessed eachtime they facilitate a course for the first time.
    • All courses are assessed through end of course student evaluations.
    • A positive assessment is required forincreases in compensation.  Faculty members whose assessment is less than satisfactory will be assisted in improving their performance during their next course taught.
 

Faculty

 
  • New course development – Faculty members who develop a course the first time it is taught at the university are compensated for their efforts.  In addition, the faculty member who develops the course and whose performance is deemed to be satisfactory by the program dean will retain the first right to teach this course for one calendar year after the completion of the first offering.  Intellectual property rights to the course belong to the university.
  • Faculty compensation – on-ground courses.
    • Faculty pay is based on the degree held by the faculty member and the program level taught at UoNA.
    • For courses six through ten taught at UoNA, faculty pay is increased in recognition of service provided.
    • For courses eleven and onward taught at UoNA, pay is increased again.
  • Faculty compensation – on-line courses
    • Faculty members are compensated per student per course taught.
 

Class Size – On-ground Courses

 

Master’s Level Courses --

  • Class size
    Minimum            6
    Maximum          20
  • For under-enrolled courses (fewer than six students), the faculty member will be paid per student enrolled.
  • For over-enrolled courses (more than 20 students), the faculty member will receive additional compensation for each student over 20 to a maximum of 30 students.
  • Classes that exceed 30 in enrollment will be divided into two separate sections.

Doctoral level courses --

  • Class size
    Minimum            4
    Maximum          15
  • For under-enrolled courses (fewer than 4 students), the faculty member will be paid per student per student enrolled.
  • For over-enrolled courses (more than 15 students), the faculty member will receive additional compensation for each student over 15 to a maximum of 20 students.
  • Classes that exceed 20 in enrollment will be divided into two separate sections.
